...You were expecting something else weren't you? Yes, I'm aware that this pair is relatively unknown and may confuse some people. But I've really gotten into the idea of Tinman having unrequited romantic feelings for Dorothy (who still cares for him as a close friend). I still hold Scarecrow/Dorothy close to my heart but looking into Tinman's actions has brought a whole meaning behind them and I think Tinman deserves more love and recognition for the gentleman he is.

- When Tinman first appears in the movie and sings "If I Only Had a Heart", he focuses mostly on Dorothy, smiles widely at her and sings the lyrics "I'd be tender/I'd be gentle/And awful sentimental/Regarding Love and Art". Almost like he's flirting with her ;)
- In a deleted scene, after the Wicked Witch threatens the trio, Dorothy gets a bee on her, Tinman swats at it and kills it. He begins crying over this and Dorothy comforts and reassures him :aww:
- When they're running to Emerald City and Dorothy falls under the Witch's spell, Tinman begins crying, crying to the point where he was the first to panic about Dorothy and rusting completely as a result (D'aww, he really does care <3)
- When Dorothy awakens, she was the first to notice Tinman was rusted :)
- After being rejected by the Guard as he slammed the door, Tinman immediately puts a hand on Dorothy's shoulder, as if he knew how upset she would be. As she starts to sob, his face CRUMBLES and immediately tries to comfort her. This scene is sad but really tender at the same time (see here)
- After the Wizard yells at them respectively, Tinman and Dorothy both rush back into each other's arms for a hug La la la la
- In the Haunted Forest, with the birds crowing, Dorothy clings onto Tinman and he states that Scarecrow's and Lion's fear is "ridiculous" (I find this interesting because this seems like the first time he's been angry before...)
- When the Flying Monkeys come, Tinman and Dorothy were clinging onto each other before they run away. He even tries to protect her using his axe (quite an act for such a gentle character)!
- Before sneaking into the the castle of the Wicked Witch, Tinman cries a little and says "Oh, I hate to think of her in there. We've got to get her out." He really does care about Dorothy, just like Scarecrow.
- When Tinman gets his heart from the Wizard, he shows his heart to Dorothy first Wow!

The backstory that was not given in the movie was that he used to be a man named Nick Chopper who fell in love with a Munchkin girl.  The Wicked Witch of the East enchanted his axe to prevent him from marrying her, after being bribed by the lazy old woman who kept the Munchkin maiden as a servant, and did not wish to lose her. The enchanted axe chopped off his limbs, one by one. Each time he lost a limb, Nick Chopper replaced it with a tin limb. Finally, nothing was left of him but tin. However, the tinsmith who helped him, neglected to replace his heart. Once Nick Chopper was made entirely of tin, he was no longer able to love the lady he had fallen for. Even worse, his human parts became a single other counterpart that run away with the Munchkin girl! :(

With all this in mind, it really brings a whole new light to Tinman's final words; "Now I know that I've got a heart... because it's breaking", especially since heartbreak is often seen with romantic love :(. Dare I say, his relationship with Dorothy is even more tragic than hers with Scarecrow! So yes, I ship Tinman/Dorothy just as hard, the poor things. broken heart
